Ortec wins Dutch Logistics Award
“With its advanced scheduling solutions, ORTEC makes a unique contribution to the Netherlands as an international player in distribution” ORTEC has won the Dutch Logistics Award for 2009. The announcement was made on 11 November by the Dutch Association of Logistics Management (vLm) during a dinner at Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. Royal Commissioner of the Province of Zeeland and former Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, Ms. Karla Peijs, declared the winner and presented them with a silver sculpture and certificate.
ORTEC received the award for its efforts in improving the efficiency of logistic processes by means of advanced scheduling solutions. “In doing so, not only does ORTEC contribute to the success of individual companies, but it also promotes corporate social responsibility and the development of the Netherlands into Supply Chain Captains (through which the aims of the Van Laarhoven Commission can be realized),” said the panel: “With its solutions, ORTEC has brought logistics scheduling to a much higher level.”
“ORTEC is innovative and client-oriented,” said the chairman of the Dutch Logistics Award panel, Walther Ploos van Amstel. “ORTEC not only integrates its solutions at a strategic, tactical, operational and real-time level. But thanks to its close cooperation with partners such as TomTom WORK (winner of the Dutch Logistics Award in 2007), it also provides a platform to work with companies of all sizes. Furthermore, ORTEC assists companies in improving their own client-facing operations takes the client as its point of departure by reducing mileage and administrative operations, which enables drivers to focus more time and attention on the customers they serve. This results in a higher level of service.”
Savings
By winning the Dutch Logistics Award, ORTEC has also been recognized for assisting clients to reduce costs by implementing ORTEC scheduling solutions. “Clients who cooperate with ORTEC in the area of tactical and strategic scheduling can make cost savings of over 20%,” Walther Ploos van Amstel explained. “A further positive indicator according to the panel is the support that ORTEC provides to company employees involved in the implementation process. For instance, ORTEC offers a wide range of courses that can help companies to improve their strategic and operational decision-making processes, through its training institute, the ORTEC Academy.”
Export product
The panel believes that ORTEC is a source of inspiration and an export product that the Netherlands should be proud of. “The company has successful relationships with more than 1,250 clients worldwide - from DHL, TNT Express to Wehkamp, Spar, and Coca-Cola Enterprises…” The panel spoke with TNT Express, amongst others, and learned that TNT expanded its existing strategic agreement with ORTEC in 2008, This was in order to optimize its global infrastructure and networks by utilizing the state-of-the-art optimization solutions and expertise delivered by ORTEC. “This proves that the ORTEC – TNT partnership is a major success,” said Walther Ploos van Amstel. “TNT has already implemented ORTEC’s solutions in a large number of countries including Brazil, India and China. This has resulted in significant optimization of the costs per unit, in addition to service improvements in each functional area of TNT’s activities.”
Milestone
“This is a very important milestone for us,” ORTEC CEO, Aart van Beuzekom, explained. “It is wonderful to receive such recognition, and a huge encouragement for us to continue in the direction we embarked upon over 27 years ago. We believe that knowledge only becomes valuable when it is applied in practice. Through this – and in cooperating successfully with our clients and partners – we can become more innovative. We would therefore like to thank them for the confidence which they place in us.”
2010 promises to be a special year
Following receipt of the Award, ORTEC intends to invest time and focus during the first half of 2010 on the clients that have implemented ORTEC solutions to become more successful. For instance, ORTEC and vLm will be organizing a number of meetings, as well as a special congress to be held in June. The congress will highlight, to both the planner and management alike, how important the role of successful planning is for companies. Additional information from ORTEC and vLm concerning these events will be available in December, once the annual program for 2010 is announced.
