The Dutch Vereniging Logistiek Management annualy rewards excelling logistical performances and innovations in logistics. The winner receives this award for an innovation that has clearly demonstrated success. Retailer Hema, producer of veal Van Drie Groep and beerbrewer Heineken received this prestigious award over the last 3 years.
With this award, The vereniging Logistiek Management seeks to promote continuing innovation and further professionalisation of logistics in the Netherlands. The winner of the award must be a source of inspiration and an example for many other companies.
This year the jury has decided to award the Nederlandse Logistiek Prijs to TomTom WORK, a product of TomTom.
Reducing transport, CO2 emission and congestion have great value to society. TomTom WORK is awarded the Nederlandse Logistiek Prijs for its contribution to reducing distances travelled, CO2 output and congestion. On average 35 mln. small commercial vehicles are on the European roads, travelling a total of 2.000 bln. kilometers every year. Today 40% of CO2-emission comes from these commercial vehicles. The introduction of a system like TomTom WORK could mean an annual reduction of more than 250 mln. kilometres which equals 100 mln. ton of CO2 in

In 2006 TomTom announced the launch of TomTom WORK, a new product and services offering that offers integrated navigation, tracking, tracing and communication solutions. Key elements of the TomTom WORK solution are:
- TomTom WEBFLEET: an easy-to-use web-based service, giving access to 24-hour vehicle management and comprehensive reporting tools. TomTom WEBFLEET allows businesses to view their vehicles’ and drivers’ exact locations and manage new tasks.
- TomTom LINK: a compact, small unit placed inside each vehicle, allowing users to easily and cost effectively transfer current vehicle positions (using GPS) and other information (via GPRS) automatically to the TomTom WEBFLEET service centre.
- TomTom GO: provides each driver with their own personal navigation system and allows users and fleet owners to communicate with office staff.

TomTom WORK showed clear and substantial benefits, which can be obtained without complex transport management systems and expensive inboard computers.
