KDC Logistiek offers e-book and course on Data-driven Logistics

KDC Logistiek, in collaboration with Logistiek Digitaal, published a free online e-book and course on Data-driven Logistics. Apart from the modules Introduction to Data-driven Logistics and basic concepts, principles, and theories, which focus on a more theoretical exploration of data-driven logistics and its associated theories and concepts, the other seven modules adhere to a more structured framework.

Logistics decision-making can be a complex challenge in today’s practice due to various interconnected factors. The intricate web of considerations includes optimizing transportation routes, managing inventory efficiently, and navigating regulatory landscapes.

Balancing cost-effectiveness with sustainable, timely deliveries adds another layer of complexity. Factors in the unpredictable nature of external disruptive elements like weather (heavy storms, heavy rains, overflowing, dryness) or global events (diseases, wars, or strikes/blockades) can lead to extraordinary complexities. Also, the rise of e-commerce and global supply chains further amplifies the intricacy. It’s like orchestrating a symphony where every note (decision) resonates across the entire supply chain, and finding the perfect harmony requires a keen understanding of the complexities involved.

To deal with all these complexities, one can observe that supply chain management decisions rely more on data than traditional experience in today’s logistics landscape. The real value lies in the strategical, tactical, and operational collection and utilization of (real-time) data. Data has become the new oil in our digitized world. Big data, characterized by massive volumes of information that can be analyzed for insights and decision-making, offers a competitive advantage when utilized effectively.
